Importance of Hygiene in the Kitchen

Most people believe that the room with the most germs is the toilet, but it’s the kitchen. Perishable food is mostly handled in the kitchen. Kitchen floor mats are also important in the kitchen.

The conditions in the kitchen are wonderful for germs to develop, as it is wet and warm. Therefore, cleanliness should be paramount in the kitchen.

In principle, not all microorganisms are harmful. They are vital for humans, as in the intestinal flora or on our skin; they serve as natural protection. Without probiotic organisms, there would be no yogurt, cheese, or beer.

Some critical spots are ideal for microorganisms in the kitchen, such as drains, work surfaces, kitchen appliances and utensils, cleaning utensils, refrigerators, waste bins, hands, and infected or even spoiled products (poultry, eggs, vegetables, salads).

After shopping, groceries such as meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products immediately belong to the refrigerator.

When it comes to frozen food, you should be careful not to interrupt the cold chain, especially in summer.

The frozen food should be thawed very slowly, as this reduces the risk of bacteria forming. When defrosting something, please put it in the refrigerator first.

The trade tools, such as knives and cutting boards, should never be used in succession for two different foods without washing them off in between.

That means never process vegetables and meat with the same utensils because otherwise, there will be an unwanted transfer and distribution of microorganisms.

It is therefore essential to wipe the worktop, stove, and kitchen floor regularly. However, commercially available household cleaners are completely sufficient for this.

It would be best if you didn’t work with disinfectants or antibacterial cleaners because otherwise, you will grow resistant bacteria.

It is also important to clean the sink with hot water and detergent every day and the wipes and sponges.

The refrigerator should be cleaned regularly and thoroughly with a vinegar cleaner.

Ensure you empty your waste bin at least once a week; because leftover food and coffee filters make it humid and warm, there are ideal bacteria conditions.
